Pre-Production for Race Track Design

Racing Theme- "Its not over 'till jungle claims you"

Color Scheme

I wanted to create dramatic contrast with the natural greens from the plant life and the feeling this this island may still be active with the reddish and earthly tones.

Here is the Basic Isometric Track design for my level. Going with the concept of a nearly uninhabited volcanic pacific island, my traps and stunts include, a bridge collapse, falling trees, plumes of volcanic ash and a classic ramp to a jump.

Bridge- The way the wooden bridge is meant to work is as follows- typically, a player will cross this bridge as quickly as possible to ensure their holding in the race. However, if a player is being horribly beaten and slammed into the wall, this trap may activate. Racers crossing the bridge at too low a speed will cause the structure to give way and collapse forward, revealing a cavern that will allow for a fantastic shortcut to the lead. This is the main stunt of my track.

Falling Trees- This stunt, while simple, is quite hazardous as trees will be programmed to periodically fall if a racer is near and cause these a large jungle flora to fall on racers.

Ash Piles- The piles of volcanic ash are deposits from the previous volcanic eruption. Therefore, if a player tries to navigate through this rocky area and decides to cut corners, they may fly into one of these piles, which will both slow the player down slightly, and cause a large plume of visibility reducing ash to form in the area.

These are some simple Pacific Cavern concept sketches

These illustrations detail the simple workings and draftings of the bridge

Here are just some of the reference used to inspire and support my track design

Bridge Jumping reference: 2 Fast 2 Furious

Bridge Collapsing reference: Transformers 3
